DON’T GO TO THE POLICE; Sir John Advices Afoko on Corruption

Sir John

By Ekow Mensah
Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie alias Sir John former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has advised the leadership of his party not to refer cases of alleged  corruption to the police for investigation.

“ Paul Afoko must know that this is an internal matter and we have to use the internal structures of the party to resolve it”, he said.

Sir John was speaking on the “Good Morning Ghana” show on Metro TV last Wednesday.

He had been asked to comment on the allegation that some party leaders have opened a secret account without the knowledge and consent of both National Chairman and the General Secretary.

Sir John was full of praise for Mr. kwabena  Agyapong , current General Secretary of the party.

He described him as one of the best General Secretaries the NPP has had since 1992.
According to him he lost the contest  for the position of General Secretary because Kwabena Agyapong had a better organization.

Sir John predicted that Nana Akufo- Addo will win the 2016 presidential elections because he is incorruptible.

Editorial
WHAAAT?
News that the Electoral Commission was charging journalist an accreditation fee of GH8.00 (Eight Ghana Cedis) to cover the District level election was a huge shock to many Ghanaians.

Why would the Electoral Commission charge journalists for covering the election when one of its major problems was lack of publicity.

Indeed on the day of the election, many people interviewed on radio said that they did not know that the election was taking place.

A lot more people did not vote because they did not know the candidates and what they stood for.

Perharps the EC does not fully understand the full import of its responsibilities.
In the 2012 elections, the EC decided to cancel the privilege of journalists voting a day before the elections to enable them carry out their duties effectively.
It is our hope that the EC will come to realize that journalists are its partners in the electoral process and take steps to facilitate their work.
