Dr Edmond Delle |

There
are very strong indications that Professor Edmond Delle would be elected as
Chairman of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) at the party congress scheduled
for mid September.
The
Greater Accra Regional Branch of the Party, is the latest to declare its unflinching
support for the candidature of Professor Edmund Delle as the party`s next National
chairman.
Addressing
a press conference in Accra on what was described as ``the declaration
statement’’, the regional Secretary of the party, Mr. Richard Nat Nanyo said
the decision is based on a critical appraisal of the current standing of the
CPP in the political landscape of the country.
He
noted that Professor Delle`s outstanding membership of the party and pedigree puts
him ahead as the only capable individual who can lead the CPP to victory in the
2016 general elections.
According
to the Greater Accra CPP, Prof Delle possessed a fatherly figure and has appreciable
years of political experience and maturity coupled with a unifying credential which
will enable him as chairman of the CPP to unite the entire Nkrumaist front to win
elections.
“Now
it is not Prof. Delle who is chasing us, but rather it is the CPP that is
chasing him”, HajiaHamdatu the National Women’s Organiser now aspiring for the Vice Chair Person
position of the CPP stated .
Speakers
at the event pledged their resolve to help mobilize the masses at the
grassroots to enable the CPP wrestle political power from the ruling National
Democratic Congress, NDC in order to provide jobs for the people.
Mr
Yirimambo Moses Ambing, the Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser of the CPP said
the 2016 polls is very significant as it marks exactly fifty years after the
overthrow of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
This
he said will certainly mark the disbandment of the reigns of both theNPP and
the NDC for a CPP government that under the leadership of Prof Delle as
chairman.
The
current chairperson of the party, Madam SamiaYaba Nkrumah is not contesting the
position.

District
level elections
Can
there be any doubt about why the turn out in all districts level elections have
been very poor?
The
fact is that many people do not see the relevance of district assemblies in
their lives and the failure of the decentralization project has also meant that
central government is still deciding many things at the local level.
When it comes to the confirmation of the
appointments of District and Metropolitan Chief Executives, it is still the
government appointed representatives in the assemblies who hold sway.
It
is still difficult to understand why there is the insistence that the district
level election should be non-partisan.
The
Insight believes that only true decentralization which must include the
abolishing government representation on
the assembles and election of District and Metropolitan Chief Executive can
excite interest in district level elections.
This
is the only way forward
