All
10 regional organizers of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) have vehemently
opposed the compilation of a new voters register.
At
a meeting in Kumasi, the organizers declared that “Ghana does not need a new voters
register for the 2016 general elections”.
In
a statement signed by Comrade Emmanuel K. K Ogbodjor, National Organiser of the
CPP, they said “As a country struggling to fix its numerous economic challenges,
it will be a misplaced priority and inappropriate to channel large resources
into compiling a new voters register”.
The
statement however asked Government to spend such resources to create employment
to improve the lives of the poor suffering masses.
It
said it is unfortunate that at this crucial time when the masses are asking for
viable solutions to their problems others are craving for a new voters’
register.
“For
some of us, we do not support… the idea of a new register but rather accept the
need for the Electoral Commission to audit and clean the existing register to
eliminate names of minors and other errors” the statement said.

Good effort
The
worth of sponsoring a public discussion on the agitation for a new voters
register must now be clear to all.
Over
Thursday and Friday last week, stakeholders contested their ideas and haggled
in the full view of Ghanaians.
At
the end of it all, it became obvious that no one party or institution has all
the answers to the problems that have bedeviled
the electoral process in the country.
When
challenged, a number of presenters could not hold their grounds and the public
could not help but notice the inconsistencies.
The
Insight salutes the Electoral Commission for sponsoring this forum which has
laid the real issues bare.
It
is our contention that this process ought to lead to the strengthening of the
independence of the Electoral Commission and the enhancing of the credibility
of the electoral process.
This
is most certainly a good effort.
J.B BACK AGAIN
J.B
Back Again is gradually becoming a reggae super star at least by Ghanaian
standards.
His
guitar skills come naturally and he sings in a voice that tells the story of
the masses; sometimes broken at other times sweet and melodious.
One
of his personal best compositions is “Chase Them Away” which exposes the
hypocrisy of the African political class and calls upon the poor to rebel
against them.
He
also does old school stuff with renditions of Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff
popular songs.
J.
B. Back Again performs at the Freedom Centre’s Monday Groove every Monday from 6:00pm.
He
is joined by poets and Comedians who thrill patrons out of their boredom.
Entrance is absolutely free at the Freedom Centre on the Kotoko Avenue of
Kokomlemle in Accra, next door to THE Insight Newspaper
